Mahesh Narayanan Joins Sociomantic Labs as MD India

Former Google India Executive Launches APAC Operations for Disruptive Display Advertising Company

Today we are pleased to announce the launch of our Mumbai-based operations under the leadership of Mahesh Narayanan, who has been appointed Managing Director India. Named one of the “Digital Power 100” by Impact Magazine, Mahesh has been working at the forefront of India’s digital industries since 1999, and now he brings his expertise to our quickly-growing global company.

Mahesh has worked with companies such as Rediff.com, Bidorbuyindia.com, Baazee.com, Mediaturf Worldwide and Times Now. He was the founding member of Google India’s direct sales operations in 2005 and helped lay the architecture for the growth of Google in India. He joined AdMob as country head for India in June 2009 to help establish the company’s successful local presence. Following Google’s acquisition of AdMob in 2010, Narayanan returned to Google where he drove the company’s mobile business in India. Among his many accolades, Narayanan was named one of the Top 100 Tech Indians by Exhibit magazine in May 2012 and was also recently included in the IMPACT Digital Power 100 list of “icons of India’s Digital Ecosystem.”

He joins joins Sociomantic at a time of rapid growth. Last fiscal year, we grew from 20 to 100 employees, and in the next 12 months we expect to reach 200. In 2011 we had four European offices — Berlin, Warsaw, Paris and Amsterdam — and in 2012 we got to fulfil our dream of becoming a truly global company by launching operations in Sao Paulo, Moscow, New York, London, and Madrid. This year we’ve been able to put down roots in San Francisco and Chicago, and now Mumbai. From these twelve international offices we are serving advertiser in more than 50 markets across six continents.

India is a promising market for digital ad spend. According to the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and the Indian Market Research Bureau International, digital ad spending in India rose by 29 percent in fiscal 2012 (April 2012 through March 2013), and is expected to grow this year by another 30 percent, nearly twice the anticipated growth rate in the US or Europe.
