New Frontiers: Shanghai

Sociomantic Expands into Greater China with New Shanghai Office

Shortly after setting up shop in Taipei, Sociomantic is pleased to announce the launch of our Shanghai office, with an aim to deliver more localized services to the Greater China region.

China is the world’s largest Internet market, with 649 million Internet users, in addition to hosting the globe’s largest population. Its rapid growth in mobile advertising—from $0.9 billion in 2013 to $13.9 billion (USD) in 2015—has surpassed United Kingdom and Japan and turned it into the second-largest market in the world, just behind the United States. According to eMarketer, digital ad spend accounts for a significant 43.6 percent of total media spending in the country. These factors create an exciting market opportunity in China for Sociomantic and advertisers looking to reach customers via personalised display advertising across web, mobile, in-app and social platforms.

Sociomantic’s Shanghai office launch comes as great news to existing Sociomantic clients like international fashion label AllSaints, which are interested in new opportunities to help penetrate the Chinese market.

“Our full-funnel campaigns with Sociomantic have delivered impressive ROI for us in the US and UK so far, thanks to market leading technology that is supported by best-in-class localised service,” said Alice Chan, Digital Manager for China at international fashion label AllSaints. “E-commerce in China is thriving, and we are really excited about the opportunity to partner with Sociomantic in this critical market. It will be a strategic advantage for us to be able to reach this audience with personalised advertising and creative across devices. We wish Sociomantic a successful market entry into China and look forward to potentially extending our collaboration with them.”

Thanks to a local headquarters in Singapore, Sociomantic has already established a strong presence in the Asia Pacific region. The office in Shanghai marks another exciting milestone in Sociomantic’s history, and it is expected to further strengthen our position in the region. Ivan Zhou moves into the role of Commercial Director Greater China and will be responsible for spearheading growth from our Shanghai office.

An experienced senior manager, Ivan has been with Sociomantic since August 2013, when he joined the company as Account Director for South East Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Right before joining Sociomantic, he served in the role of Regional Director of Marketing for leading fashion e-tailer ZALORA, where he gained valuable e-commerce expertise from the client side.

“Over the past year in Sociomantic, I have witnessed the tremendous growth of the company across Asia, and the strong relationships we have been able to forge with clients in this region,” said Zhou, speaking of his move to the new position in Shanghai. “There is a gap in the Chinese market for customer-centric, cross-device personalized advertising solutions, and we are excited to step in to fill that gap. I look forward to building out Sociomantic’s Shanghai team to support the region’s largest and fastest-growing market.”

Rohit Kumar, Sociomantic Managing Director APAC, commented, “At Sociomantic, we pride ourselves on our market-leading technology combined with best-in-class service, and China is going to be no different. With local service teams based in Shanghai and Beijing, we have strong products backed by talented people. Given his expertise and knowledge of the Chinese market, Ivan is the perfect fit and right talent to fill the shoes of Commercial Director in order to establish Sociomantic as the market leader in programmatic advertising in Greater China.”
